Sports chiropractic is an area that relates to injuries or pain caused by sport or exercise. Most sports injuries commonly fall within the scope of general musculoskeletal conditions such as muscular strains, ligament sprains, joint pain, discogenic pain, etc. The significant difference between a chiropractor whose niche is not athletes and one that is often understanding the role the sport or exercise has on an injury. Having sport-specific knowledge is critical to understanding the demands and requirements the sport will place on the patient. Having a thorough and accurate diagnostic scope helps determine whether an injury is acute, chronic, the result of poor biomechanics, or a gradual overuse condition.

The role of a sports chiropractor is to help athletes recover from these injuries, provide a safe and effective treatment plan, develop a return to sports protocol, and most importantly help prevent the injury from recurring. Sports chiros are typically certified as  Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician(CCSP),  Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (DACBSP), or International Certified Sports Chiropractor (ICSC) where further experience and knowledge may be gained and the most up to date evidence-based practice kept current and relevant.

Common injuries seen by a sports chiropractor include:

  • Ligament Sprains and Tears
  • Tendinopathies
  • Muscular Strains and Tears
  • Joint Irritation
  • Discogenic Pain
  • Nerve Irritation
  • Concusions

Sports chiropractic covers all levels of sporting injuries from beginners to elite level. Injuries occurring in the active population are to similar injuries found on the sporting field and are managed in the same way as the sporting population.

I, Dr. Cameron, am certified through the International an of Sports Chiropractic as an International Certified Sports Chiropractor (ICSC), am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and have studied immensely and taken numerous courses in the fields of sports injury and physical rehabilitation. While in school, I had the opportunity to be a Clinical Sports Intern under the guidance of a Sports Diplomate and would diagnose and treat the athletes of the local D1 school, Bethune Cookman University. Strength & Spine Chiropractic tailors to athletes, weightlifters, bodybuilders, CrossFitters, weekend warriors, and all active populations.

We understand how frustrating it can be to be taken out of the game or not be able to go exercise that’s why we are here to help you. We help get you back to your active life and provide you with the tools to keep you pain-free and active. The best part is, that you don’t actually have to be an athlete. We get asked all the time if we treat “general populations”. Of course, we do! A rotator cuff strain or meniscus tear in a businesswoman, grandpa, or athlete would have similar treatments and goals! Sure, rehab may look a little different, but of course, we treat everyone (except Medicare/Medicaid).

If you’re tired of dealing with a nagging injury, or just want to actually feel good for the first time in a while, Strength & Spine Chiropractic is the office for you! Schedule today at strengthchiro.com or call us at 727-228-3030 to schedule your 60-minute new patient appointment!
